Tigers advance to NCAA regional championship game
The women’s lacrosse team concluded its 10th anniversary season by making a third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championship and fourth overall. Colorado College rallied to beat St. Mary’s College of Maryland 10-9 before falling to The College of New Jersey 19-9 in the regional championship game. CC set a pair of school records by winning their first 12 games of the season and posting 13 victories. The Tigers finished the season ranked No. 7 by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association, their highest ranking ever. Abel '05
Abel named first-team All-American by U.S. Lacrosse
Attacker Cassie Abel ’05 was named a first-team All-American by U.S. Lacrosse and became the first player in the program’s history to earn that distinction. Midfielder Lizzie Franke ’05 and midfielder Helen Sneath ’06 were both named second-team All-Americans. Abel led the Tigers with 58 goals and 78 points, and was second with 20 assists. She surpassed Kelli Kessler’s ’00 single-season record for the most goals in a single season (57). Abel now ranks third with 142 career goals and 191 points, and eighth with 49 assists.
Bartlett '05Richey '07Women’s water polo earns all-conference nods
Goaltender Kate Bartlett ’05 and hole-set Dominique Richey ’07 both were named to the Southwest Division Women’s Club All-Conference second team by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA). The Tigers posted a 4-7 record in their first varsity season, earning fifth place at the CWPA Southwest Division Championships held in April at the University of Arizona.
Reinhart '07Moore, Reinhart set school records in track
Marlessa Moore ’06 and Alex Reinhart ’07 set school records during the 2004 outdoor season. Moore broke her own standard in the triple jump for the third time with a leap of 37 feet, 7 1/4 inches at the Occidental Invitational. Reinhart set a record in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:26.17, nearly 17 seconds faster than Nate Tarver’s ’99 mark from 1999.
Reich '05Reich earns All-America honor
Basketball forward Michael Reich ’05 was named a first-team college division All-American by the Jewish Sports Review, becoming the first-ever Tiger to earn such distinction from the New York-based publication. Reich led CC in points (19.9) and assists per game (2.3) this season and helped CC to its first NCAA Division III tournament appearance since 1992 and its best overall record (15-10) since 1996-97.
Three Tigers earn Academic All-District honors
Three senior athletes were named to the 2004 Academic All-District VII College Division Team by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Jennifer Marlow ’04 of the women’s tennis team was voted to the women’s first-team after compiling a 3.94 grade point average while majoring in psychology. She becomes the first-ever member of the women’s tennis squad recognized as a first-team All-District selection.

Andrew Appell ’04 of the men’s tennis squad and Greg Lestikow ’04 of the men’s swimming and diving team each earned second-team honors in the men’s college division. Appell has posted a 3.81 GPA while majoring in economics. Lestikow has amassed a 3.92 GPA studying religion, becoming the first member of the men’s swimming and diving team to earn an All-District nod since Mahinda Ratnayake ’99 was named to the first team in 1999.
Bahl '04Martin '04Martin, Bahl recognized as CC’s top student-athletes
Seniors Ruthie Martin ’04 and Matt Bahl ’04 were named recipients of the annual Laura Golden and Van Diest Awards as Colorado College’s top female and male student-athletes for the 2003-04 academic year. Martin, who graduated with a bachelor of science degree in biology, was CC’s starting catcher for all 102 of the softball team’s games the last four seasons. Bahl, a guard whose court leadership and three-point shooting helped the men’s basketball team earn its first NCAA playoff bid since 1992, became just the fourth CC player in history to reach the 1,500-points plateau for his career.
Galloway '04Cross country teams earn academic honor
The men’s and women’s cross country teams earned all-academic status from the Cross Country Coaches Association for the 2003 season. The women’s team posted a cumulative GPA of 3.37, while the men posted a combined 3.27. Bennan Galloway ’04 earned individual recognition by posting a 3.7 GPA and finishing in the top 25 percent at the NCAA Regional Championship.
