12th Class at Homecoming
Twenty years after reaching the national championship match against the University of North Carolina, the 1986 women’s soccer team from Colorado College will be inducted into the CC Athletics Hall of Fame during Homecoming festivities on Oct. 4. Four individuals also will be honored: the late Kelly Dolphus Stroud ’31, a champion runner and the first African-American Phi Beta Kappa at CC; Art Berglund ’63, who lettered in hockey for three seasons and then worked for many U.S. professional and Olympic teams; Christine Krall ’70, who won a national junior figure-skating championship in 1962 and has served her sport at nearly every level since; and Jay Engeln ’74, captain and MVP of the men’s soccer team who later founded Colorado’s first public high school soccer program and won National Secondary School Principal of the Year in 2000.
