Join
us APRIL 19 – 20
at the Rio del Mar beach house of
Meryl and Bob '61 Selig
for the 26th annual Books on the Beach,
the Bay Area’s signature alumni event.
The
Topic
The
Use of Theory in Research and Scholarship on Sexuality
Few debates are more intense than those regarding the study of human
sexuality. Join Professor Bryant "Tip" Ragan, chair of CC's
history department, as we discuss theories between “essentialists,”
who believe that sexuality is innate and determined by nature, and “social
constructionists,” who maintain that sex, sexual behavior, sexual
identity and sexual roles vary widely across time and place. We'll have
readings on a variety of topics that will push the boundaries of how
we think about sexuality.
In addition to great discussion, this event always features the culinary
talents of John Chalik '67 and his sous chef, Rob Adkisson ’92.
They are planning quite the feast for us, including a special cocktail
to commemorate this year’s discussion topic. A free CC t-shirt
to the first registrant who correctly guesses what that cocktail is
named …
