Writer
and photographer Stephen Trimble ’72 received an honorary
Doctor of Humane Letters from CC to honor his efforts to increase
our understanding of Western landscapes and peoples and his choice
to remain a stubborn generalist. His 2006 book, Lasting Light: 125
Years of Grand Canyon Photography, brings viewers into the hearts
of great photographers as they devote years to seeing, really seeing,
the Grand Canyon. Their images fill Steve's award-winning book,
and their stories bring to life their photographs--and this talk.
Steve uses photographs from the most prominent artists working in
the Grand Canyon over the last 125 years to tell the stories behind
the images, tales of the passion, patience, and persistence of the
photographers. Lasting Light celebrates what all of us learn every
time we peer through a viewfinder at this enduring treasure we call
the Grand Canyon.
