August 10-23, 2008

For some, a trip through Grand Canyon on the Colorado River means fun. For others it means adventure. For many, it’s the dream of a lifetime. Most are forever changed.

What’s so special about Grand Canyon? Rapids. Hiking spectacular side canyons. Waterfalls. The earth’s geologic history opening like a book. The change of pace – moving at the speed of the river and the day instead of the “rat race.” Rafts powered by oars, not motors. Campside conversation, not email or cell phones!

All of this – and more.

To be joined in your journey by friends makes it all the more special. This, the sixth Colorado College Grand Canyon trip will be “staffed” by Diane Brown Benninghoff ’68, a veteran river runner and Professor Mark Smith who will help us all understand Colorado River issues. We’ll float with Moki Mac Outfitters, one of the oldest and most respected (and some say, most colorful) companies in the Canyon. The Quist family took its first group down the Colorado in 1947 through Glen Canyon. In addition to the rafts, rowed by our guides, we expect to have both a dory and their “shredder,” a small two person paddle craft that can be used on much of the river for those who want an extra level of participation.
