Heil Valley Ranch Open Space
Our
Boulder County Reforestation Service Project at Heil Valley Ranch Open
Space will be cutting small diameter trees to improve forest health and
wildlife habitat. Please join us to connect with CC alumni and friends
and share your CC pride with the Boulder community!
Directions:
To get to Heil Valley Ranch Open Space from Boulder, go north from Boulder
on the Foothills Highway/US 36 approximately 5 miles. At the intersection
of US 36 with Lefthand Canyon Drive, turn left and drive about 1/2 mile
up Lefthand Canyon, then turn right onto Geer Canyon Road. Drive about
2 miles up Geer Canyon Road (passing the old ranch area) to the entrance
to Heil
Valley Ranch parking lot and picnic shelter. Meet up at the picnic shelter.
The County will provide rides from the shelter to the work site, so it
would help if people are as on-time as possible. Visit the Boulder County
Parks and Open Space website.
What to wear: Long pants or convertible pants, hat, and
hiking or work boots are appropriate. Bring jacket or rain gear if indicated
by the weather. Carry sunscreen and a water bottle. Bring leather work
gloves if possible.
This project will include some easy hiking. The county will provide loppers
and pruning saws, and does have a supply of work gloves for people who
don't bring their own. Volunteers should be over 12 with adult supervision.
(Parents/guardians must fill out and sign a waiver for anyone under 18).
No dogs are allowed at Heil Valley Ranch. Some snack food and water coolers
provided.
