Class: Enrich Your Life: Local and Natural Papermaking

In this two-day workshop open to the community, students will learn to make paper by hand from a variety of natural and recycled fibers from the Pikes Peak region. Starting with yucca, iris and discarded paper and cardboard pulps, students will learn the simple steps involved in turning these into beautiful, functional paper.

Workshop: Louise Mead, Evolution and the Nature of Science: Phenomena, Fossils & a Fishpod
Louise Mead from the National Center for Science Education in California presents this daylong seminar on educating students about evolution. The seminar will include discussions on the nature of science and scientific theories, fossil evidence for evolution, and current research in evolutionary biology.

Concert: World Music Series: Vagabond Opera
Weaving elements of Kurt Weil, Duke Ellington and Edith Piaf with absurdist flair, theatrics and an Old World mood, Vagabond Opera presents the new wave of opera: lusty voices singing in 11 languages, powerful instrumental and vocal performances coupled with a highly eclectic and theatrical experience.

Lecture: Chuck Kezar webinar, The Road from Fossil Fuels to a Sustainable Energy Economy: The Strategy in Iceland as a Model
The Southeastern Colorado Renewable Energy Society presents this live webinar featuring speaker Chuck Kezar in real time from the CRES meeting in Golden, CO. The tiny island nation of Iceland has one of the world's most ambitious plans for transitioning away from fossil fuels.

Thursday, August 28 at 5:30 p.m.
Workshop: Praise Dance Workshops
Dancers from El Paso, Texas, and area churches will present workshops and a concert titled "Dancing in the Spirit of the Lord!" The workshops will run for three days starting Thursday, Aug. 28, during which participants will learn routines and then perform with professional dancers at the final free concert on Sunday, Aug. 31.
