Frequently Asked Questions

What is the City Champions program?
There are several “circles of engagement" in the City Champions program. Each of these circles – alumni and parents, faculty, athletics, admissions, career, development and media/visibility – presents an opportunity for graduates of all ages to engage or re-engage with their alma mater. This isn’t a new concept; the City Champions idea came from CC’s biggest champion, President Richard F. Celeste, who had a similar field operation when he was governor of Ohio.

How do I lead local volunteers?
Ideally, each circle has an assigned volunteer who heads up work on set goals in a specific area of interest (these goals are set at an annual planning meeting). Perhaps an alumnus wants to identify internships for our Career Center. Interviewing prospective students may be a particular passion, or organizing a fundraising challenge. There are so many ways City Champions volunteers can help CC! A City Champions Coordinator in each area helps coordinate activities keeping their volunteers on track and reports the results back to CC on a regular basis.

Coordinators and CC Event Ambassadors work together!
An event ambassador is assigned to the alumni and parent circle. Trained and supported by staff at the Office of Alumni and Parents Relations, this volunteer champions five or so events per year (including faculty visits, community service projects, happy hours, etc.). Event ambassadors field ideas from alumni in their area and, working with the Alumni & Parent Relations Office, coordinate and oversee all event programming in their cities.

May I help with event planning?
Absolutely! Given today’s limited budgets, we’re relying more and more on our alumni “insiders” -- those with connections who get discount pricing on group tickets or fun venues or even plain old free office space for planning meetings. Be sure to ask other alumni with whom you're in contact what they have to offer regarding knowledgeable speakers, the theater, political events, you name it. Just be sure to always get alumni with the ideas in touch with the Event Ambassador so they can head up the planning!

What is a City Champions Blitz weekend?
Known affectionately as “Cities on Steroids,” a blitz weekend is a culmination of activities that take place in two-four days. It’s a prime example of how CC tries to get the most bang out of CC’s presence off campus. With the help of our City Champions Calendar we are able to coordinate the travel schedules of President Celeste, faculty members, sports teams, admission counselors, or development officers as often times they will be in the same town at the same time. What better reason to rally area alumni and parents to get together?

In the past we've scheduled City Champions meetings as well as Admission events for prospective students and their families with President Celeste and a faculty member in attendance. Often times a Professor will present on a topic. Blitz weekends are a terrific way to promote all we love about CC.

How do I know what’s happening in my area?
The Web site has it all. Click on the City Champions Calendar to find out which faculty are visiting when, what teams are coming, when President Celeste is scheduled to be there. Have an idea? Follow the link for your Event Ambassador's email in your city and start up a conversation. Easy!

How do I find other CC alumni who live in my city?
There are a couple of ways. The online community is a great way to stay connected (https://www.alumniconnections.com/olc/pub/CLC/). Membership is free to Colorado College alumni. By completing the simple four-step registration process, you will have access to an ever-expanding network of Colorado College alumni and friends. Whether you are looking to locate a long-lost classmate or find alumni that may provide career advice, the Online Directory is your connection to more than 25,000 individuals.

Most cities have facebook pages or groups. Join! Or contact your City Champ coordinator, who maintains lists of area alumni and parents. The Office of Alumni and Parent Relations can also run specific lists for your region.

I want to get involved! Who shall I contact at CC?
Start with Jayne Blewitt, one of the friendliest champions of Colorado College Jayne.Blewitt@coloradocollege.edu or 800.852.6519. She can answer specific questions or direct you to our liaisons in admissions, the career center, the development office, media relations or athletics. Karrie Williams P’09, the director of Alumni and Parent Relations, is another good contact to have (Karrie.Williams@coloradocollege.edu).
