Frequently Asked Questions

If you have other questions, please feel free to contact the Admission Office (1-800-542-7214).

Can I visit now?
Most of our special planning for admitted students occurs during the April Open House programs; however, you may visit at any time. If you would like to attend a class, sit in on a regularly scheduled information session, stay overnight with a student host, or tour the campus, please call us to make an appointment.

May I defer attending for a year?
Taking a year off to study abroad, pursue a special interest or participate in an interesting and rewarding program can be a great opportunity. We encourage you to pursue your interests and dreams. If you would like to defer your admission for one year, please be sure to postmark your request by May 1 and send it along with your enrollment form and deposit. This permission is granted with the assumption that you are committing to enroll after that period, and with the caveat that you may not enroll at another college or university during that year. Deferred students must reapply for financial aid.

How can I learn more?
Please feel free to call or write us if you have questions or just want to touch base. We encourage you to visit our website at which is updated regularly. In the meantime, please feel free to have e-mail conversations with any of the students, faculty, or alumni listed in the Admission Office e-mail links.

When will I hear about housing?
During the first week of June, the college will ship all new first-year students a binder of materials entitled Colorado College Bound, which includes sections on academics, student services, health requirements, business office information, housing registration, new student orientation and other areas. We've tried to consolidate all general information in the binder. You should receive your hall assignment and roommate's home address in early August. First-year students typically live in double rooms on first-year wings in one of two large coeducational residence halls: Slocum and Loomis. Loomis is the primary first-year residence hall. There are organized events in the residence halls for first-year students to promote camaraderie and a sense of community. First-year female students may request to live in a single-sex residence hall (Bemis). After their first year, students have a wide variety of housing options: single-sex halls, coeducational halls, small and large halls, theme houses, language houses, single rooms, double rooms, and suites. Students are expected to live on campus until their senior year.

What else will I need to do during the summer?
Besides class and housing registration, CC Bound will include requests for meal plan decisions, payment plan decisions, etc. The Health Center will also need documentation verifying your health insurance (the college does offer insurance) and proof of a recent physical exam and vaccinations.

When do I select classes?
Using the registration materials in CC Bound, first-year students will select their First Year Experience courses during the summer. During second block, first-year students meet with their faculty advisors and select their courses for the remainder of the year.

Do you have advisors? How are they assigned?
Every student has a faculty advisor (and every faculty member has advisees). This advisor is often your first or second block professor and is assigned over the summer. When declaring a major, students select a new advisor within the department of their major.

Can I contact other admitted students?
It is possible, but not easy, for CC to put admitted students in contact with each other. This is because federal law prohibits colleges from releasing the names of first-year students without their permission. (Such permission is requested in CC Bound.)

When does school start and when do residence halls open?
Fall semester starts on Monday, September 1st, 2008. The residence halls will open at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23rd, and orientation begins that day as well.

How do I get involved in a sport or activity?
CC Bound will request information about your interests. You may also write the coaches, directors, etc., during the summer.

May I bring my car? Do I need a car?
No, Colorado College does not allow first-year students to have a car on campus, and most students do not feel that they need one.

Can I get a job on or off campus?
Students receiving financial aid have priority in receiving on-campus jobs and should be in contact with the Financial Aid Office during the summer. Other students can check with the office about the possibility of on-campus employment, but will have to wait until after Block One to obtain a job. Many students take off-campus jobs. There are a number of local shops that hire CC students every year. Internships at nearby non-profits are also popular.

What kind of computer resources are available? Are students required to have their own computer?
There are computer labs in each of the main academic buildings and residence halls. Some departments, like Mathematics, have more sophisticated labs for the complex work assigned to their students. While over 200 PCs and Macs are dedicated to student use on campus, students are strongly encouraged to bring their own. CC Bound includes a section on recommended computer specifications and capacities.

What else do I need to know?
We hope we've answered most of your questions, but if you think of anything else, please feel free to call our office (1-800-542-7214) and someone will be more than happy to help you!
