125th Symposium: Cultures
In the 21st Century

 Schedule of Events

During the 1989-1999 academic year, Colorado College celebrated its quasquicentennial, or 125th anniversary.

Among the major anniversary events was a special campus honors convocation and the premiere of a video history of CC's first century and a quarter on May 6, the 125th anniversary of the first day of classes at Colorado College (and the first classes ever held at a college- or university-level institution in Colorado Territory).

March featured a special 125th performance of Bach's Mass in B Minor, and February a symposium on cultures in the 21st Century -- a cornerstone of the year's observances with transcripts now available. An all-college convocation  on Tuesday, Feb. 9, marking the official date of incorporation when the college's charter was filed with Colorado Territory.  See a transcript, with photos from the convocation, of President Kathryn Mohrman's keynote address; also see Chaplain Bruce Coriell's benediction.

President  Mohrman accepted a resolution of congratulations from the Colorado Springs City Council, also on Feb. 9 (see photo).  The Colorado State Legislature issued a proclamation on Feb. 4 -- another important date in CC history honoring the college on its anniversary.

Among the web offerings relating to the anniversary and CC history in general are pages on the history of mathematics and of music at the college.  A posting on Tutt Library's Special Collections and Archives page was of special interest during the 125th as well -- text of the 1874 Colorado College Charter.

Now off the press are two books, a history of the college by Robert Loevy and a collection of memoirs edited by Max Taylor -- more information is available.
